Amy Young speaking at the Center for Positive Organizations

Keynote Speaking

A rare combination on stage.

Amy brings the rigor of a research scientist, the warmth of someone who has spent decades working alongside leaders, and the clarity of a teacher who makes complex ideas feel simple and alive. Her talks are not motivational speeches — they are grounded in peer-reviewed research and designed to leave every person with something specific they can do differently the next morning.

She has spoken across healthcare, financial services, higher education, professional services, and technology, with particular depth in healthcare leadership.

Signature Keynotes

Two talks. One goal: leaders who energize.

Keynote 01

Relational Energy: The Overlooked Antidote to Burnout

For organizations where burnout is real, the pressure isn’t going away, and leaders need something they can actually do. Amy shows how the way leaders communicate is a more powerful predictor of burnout and retention than compensation, workload, or flexible scheduling.

Ideal for: Corporate leadership conferences, HR and talent summits, healthcare leadership forums, executive retreats.

Keynote 02

The Energizing Leader: Mindsets & Practices That Transform Teams

For leaders who want to understand what the most extraordinary leaders do differently. Drawing on interviews with energizing leaders across industries, Amy introduces the benefit mindset and the learning mindset — and the specific practices that flow from them.

Ideal for: Leadership development conferences, executive retreats, corporate all-hands, management training.

Workshops

Focused, high-impact sessions.

Whether a 90-minute introduction or a two-day intensive, each workshop can stand alone or anchor a larger leadership development effort. Every engagement begins with a conversation about what your organization is facing and what success would look like.

Relational Energy: The Leadership Advantage

The science of relational energy and its implications for team performance and burnout prevention, with practices participants can use immediately.

The Energizing Leader: Mindsets & Practices

A deeper exploration of the benefit and learning mindsets, with guided reflection, discussion, and a personal development plan.

Building a Culture of Relational Energy

A team-level workshop built on the Flourishing Organizations Framework and its Flourishing Teams card game. Each participant uses their own deck to name where the team stands today, then shares and discusses as a group, surfacing honest perspectives and co-creating the practices that move a team from merely functional to genuinely flourishing: high energy, trust, and camaraderie.

Executive Presence: SEE, FEEL, TRUST

Amy’s research-backed framework for presence, developed with Mary Hinesly, across all three dimensions with a practical plan for each.

Team Communication & Cohesion

An evidence-based session that uses the Flourishing Teams card game to spark open, honest dialogue about how the team is really working. Its 72 cards give people the words to describe their experience across 12 dimensions of team functioning, and sharing those choices builds the mutual understanding that strengthens communication, trust, and cohesion.

Burnout & Beyond: Organizational Resilience

For leaders identifying where their organization is most vulnerable and designing interventions grounded in the science of relational energy.

Consulting & Culture Transformation

Evidence-based, human-centered change

Amy’s consulting is built on the Flourishing Organizations Framework, which she developed to give leaders a clear-eyed view of where their culture stands, mapping a unit across three states: failing, functional, and flourishing. It takes a deliberate dual focus, clearing the inefficiency, dysfunction, and toxicity that drain a team while cultivating the energizing practices that foster meaning, high-quality connection, and resilience.

Because no two organizations are alike, no two transformations should be. Amy partners closely with the leadership team, sharing the principles behind the framework and then working shoulder to shoulder to weave them into the practices, expectations, and policies the organization already has. Honest, team-wide assessment, often using the Flourishing Teams card game she created with executive coaches experienced with the framework, grounds the work in what people are truly experiencing, so the plan that emerges is genuinely the organization’s own.

Throughout, team members, and often the entire organization, help decide how the principles come to life in their everyday work. That active role is the point: when people co-create the change, they own it, and their commitment to carrying it through deepens. Developed and tested in healthcare during the pandemic, the approach produced statistically significant gains in engagement and satisfaction alongside reductions in burnout and turnover.

A Special Area of Focus

Healthcare leadership

Amy brings particular depth and credibility to healthcare organizations, grounded in years of published research and direct work with clinical and administrative leaders at Michigan Medicine.

As Co-Faculty Director of the Energizing Leadership in Medicine Program, she and her colleague Jared Christensen, MD, have developed and tested a model that produced measurable improvements in burnout, intent to leave, engagement, and job satisfaction — results published in leading peer-reviewed journals and recognized as a model for the crisis facing healthcare nationwide. Amy and Dr. Christensen are now bringing their approach to physicians, administrators, and other healthcare professionals.

How Amy Works

The difference is in how you engage.

The best leaders are deliberate about how they engage — reading what the team needs in the moment, the situation in front of them, and the direction of the organization. Yet most leaders have little sense of how their framing, word choice, gestures, tone, and timing land on the people around them. Moreover, they know even less about the kinds of interactions that build teams defined by high energy, high performance, and an unwavering commitment to one another and a shared goal. That is the gap Amy’s work closes.

Every engagement begins with a conversation.
